The Angel Window

This window is known as the Hunt Memorial, dedicated to the memory of Katie Hunt who was born January 14, 1873, and died of spinal meningitis on her fifteenth birthday January 14, 1888. Her father was Doctor William H. Hunt and her mother Margaretta Baker Hunt, daughter of John and Henrietta Baker. The window was presented by John Baker, installed in the over-door wood framing of the south Transept leather-covered door and dedicated June 9, 1888. Often said to include a portrait of young Katie Hunt, the angelic composition had suffered loss of color and translucency until its restoration in 1998. The window is signed as the work of the Rowen Art Glass Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. At the lower edge are the words "He shall give his angels charge over thee." A bronze panel, set in the door-head motif, is inscribed: "Erected to the Glory of God in Loving Memory of Katie Hunt, " -- "for such is the Kingdom of Heaven, Matthew XIX 14.
